What's Smart Glass
Smart Glass (also call switchable Glass) is a new type of special photoelectric glass product with an interlayer structure, which is formed by laminating a liquid crystal film between two layers of glass and then bonding them together under high temperature and high pressure.
The user controls the transparency and opacity of the glass by switching the current on or off.
How does it works ?
When smart glass cuts off the power supply, the liquid crystal molecules inside will be in an irregularly scattered state. At this time, it presents a transparent appearance without being opaque. When it is powered on, the liquid crystal molecules inside will be arranged in an orderly manner, allowing light to pass freely. At this point, the glass instantly becomes transparent.
Its core of technology are PDLCs ( known as polymer-dispersed liquid crystals), In simple terms, polymers allow liquid crystals to be embedded in the film, which then can be sandwiched between panels of glass.
so the smart glass also call PDLCs glass.
The dimming principle of PDLC film is based on the change in the molecular arrangement of the liquid crystal under the action of an electric field. When an electric field is applied to the PDLC sheet, the arrangement state of the liquid crystal molecules will change, thereby altering the degree of light transmission.
When powered on, the liquid crystal molecules are arranged in an orderly manner, allowing light to pass through and remain in a transparent state.
When powered off， the molecules are randomly distributed, causing the light to scatter and produce a fog-like effect.
